In the SUT-1 we deliver both an economical and a high performance SUT (Step Up
Transformer) for use with Low Output Moving Coil cartridges. The CA-SUT 1 is designed
around the wonderful Cine-Mag CMQEE-3440 transformer, manufactured here
in the US and offering a performance level far beyond it's price point.
Our design has attempted to maintain a very logical process of using the
finest components and minimal signal interference. The transformers are
mounted in an inverted position (windings facing down) on a custom steel
mounting board, which is then enclosed in a aluminum chassis, we feel
that this type of mounting offers the best possible isolation from both
RFI and EMI contamination. Along with the high quality Gold RCA jacks,
the only other components entered into the signal path, is a Ratio
Switch, which enables the user to easily change the transformers ratio
from 1:16 to 1:30 to better perform with the cartridge loading
requirements. Some suppliers of the CineMag units offer a "Ground Lift"
switch, we have found this to more problematic than beneficial, so all
grounds in the CA-SUT 1 are terminated to a single "Star Grounding" type
configuration. All grounding wire is Silver/OFC with Teflon insulation,
all solder is WBT silver. We have had excellent results with this
design, offering a very quite and very musical presentation when used
with a proper RIAA Phono Preamplifier or MM input. Proven to be a
quality match with MC cartridges from several manufacturers such as
Denon, Dynavector, Ortofon and others.
In order to make the SUT-1 not only more pleasing to the eye but more
durable, we use an enclosure made from high grade 2mm thick Anodized
Aluminum with Laser Etched lettering for permeability.
